In the news...

Othman won’t be a outer space alien ambassador to the U.N.

News of an extraterrestrial ambassador from the United Nations spread Sunday on the web. The job was expected to go to Mazlan Othman. Othman is head of the United Nations Office for Outer space Affairs. He is also a Malaysian astrophysicist. It would only really happen in response to alien visitors, say Othman. The idea of extraterrestrial contact is not that absurd considering all of the planets outside of the solar system being found more just lately. Stephen Hawking has told Earth to be cautious as there might be alien life. Othman e-mailed the British newspaper to set things straight. There can be no ambassador to space.

Why could the United Nations be in charge of answering aliens anyway?

The rumor flew around the world as it “broke” within the Sunday Times that Othman would be the ambassador appointed by the United Nations to visit aliens. The search for alien transmission was something Othman spoke about in a recent seminar. It was quoted within the Sunday Times. She explained that earth needs to be ready to react at any minute. Othman also gave the opinion that the U.N. should be responsible for this. Newspapers like the Australian took the bait, mentioning that Othman would be talking more about imminent contact with aliens at a scientific conference sponsored by the Royal Society in Britain in the near future.

Planning to see if other life forms exist

An extra-solar planet is also called an exoplanet. In 1992, this was first found to really exist. The Kepler Mission, a National Aeronautics and Space Administration space observatory launched in 2009, has identified hundreds of possible exoplanets. Stephen Hawking warned Earth although there is probably not any intelligent alien life. Hawking interviewed with the Sunday Times saying mankind should try getting noticed before it tries to look for more extraterrestrial existence. A planet with more resources might look like heaven to most aliens. This is probably what would happen. He claims we can all imagine the consequences of this by simply looking within the mirror. “We only have to check out ourselves to see how intelligent life might develop into something we would not want to meet.”

Ambassadors from outer space playing on the planet currently

Othman was the one who begun the U.N. alien ambassador story. The Guardian looked for real facts rather than just going with everybody else. The Royal Society got a call from the British newspaper that asked about the speech on alien contact made by Othman. It was news to them. Nobody knew about it. The Office for Outer Space Affairs questions were all referred somewhere else by the United Nations A switchboard in Vienna is where they went. Othman told the Guardian the truth after an e-mail sent to her. She said the U.N. alien ambassador story was just a hoax. All she had to say was, “It sounds really cool, however I have to deny it.” The Royal Society speech is going to be about how earth may be colliding with objects in its path in the near future which is a real problem.
